Dear God,

There is nothing like the feeling of being loved!

You created us to love and be loved.

I thank you for all the love you have given me and shown me throughout all my days.

Thank you for all the special touches and blessings that let me know you care about even the smallest details of my life and that you love me no matter what.

Thank you for friends who are there for me…

and that I can be there for…through the seasons of life.

Thank you for the love of parents and children and extended family.

I am grateful for the love in my life.

I pray that every person will experience love…especially your unending

. . . . . far-reaching

. . . . . peace-bringing

. . . . . merciful

. . . . . and unconditional love.

This I  pray and offer my whole-hearted love and thankfulness.

Amen.

O Lord our God, under the shadow of Thy wings let us hope.

Thou wilt support us, both when little and even to gray hairs.

When our strength is of Thee, it is strength

but, when our own, it is feebleness

 We return unto Thee,

O Lord, that from their weariness our soul may rise towards Thee

leaning on the thing which Thou has created

 and passing on to Thyself

who hast wonderfully made them

for with Thee is refreshment and true strength

Amen

God,
grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change
the courage to change the things I can
and the wisdom to know the difference.

humility

I hold myself to be incapable of hating any being on earth.

By a long course of prayerful discipline,

I have ceased for over forty years to hate anybody.

I know this is a big claim.

Nevertheless, I make it in all humility.

To everything there is a season

And a time to every purpose under the heaven

A time to be born, and a time to die

A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted

A time to kill, and a time to heal

A time to break down, and a time to build up

A time to weep, and a time to laugh

A time to mourn, and a time to dance

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together

A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

A time to seek, and a time to lose

A time to keep, and a time to cast away

A time to rend, and a time to sew

A time to keep silence, and a time to speak

A time to love, and time to hate

A time for war, and a time for peace

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Lord God,

I know not what I ought to ask of Thee

Thou only know what I need

Thou lovest me better than I know how to love myself.

O Father! Give to Thy child that which he himself  knows not how to ask.

I dare not ask either for crosses or consolations

I simply present myself before Thee

I open my heart to Thee

Behold my needs which I know not myself

see and do according to Thy tender mercy

Smite, or heal

depress me, or raise me up

I adore all Thy purposes without knowing them

I am silent

I offer myself in sacrifice

I yield myself to Thee

I would have no other desire than to accomplish Thy will

Teach me to pray

Pray Thyself in me.

Amen.

O Thou whose glory fills the heavens,
Whose bounty clothes the earth,
To Thee a poem of thanks we raise
For blessings from our birth.
For that untiring love Thou dost,
From day to day renew,
O may it on our hearts descend
Like heaven-distilled dew.
For mercy great, unending still,
Which gave up to the grave
Thine only Son, the Sinless One,
Our sinful souls to save.
While entering on another year
Our cares on Thee we cast,
Beseeching aid in days to come
Which cheered us through the past.
That still the freedom may be ours
To kneel down in Thy sight,
And worship Thee at shut of day,
And in the morning light.
That from temptation’s fatal paths
Thou turn our steps away;
And keep us from unholy thoughts
That lead the mind astray.
No more may lust of worldly wealth
Command thoughts that are thine;
Nor may we envy other’s lot,
Or at our own repine.
Than all the riches earth can boast
Or gems beneath the sea,
We know the pious, humble heart,
More precious is to Thee.
How needful, then, to train our thoughts,
And fan the heavenly flame
Of faith, in the believing heart,
Triumphing o’er sin and shame
And holding by the Word, thou hast
For grace and guidance given,
Pass trough this world in holy fear,
True candidates for heaven.

Dear God of Compassion,

There is such a hole in our hearts.  Today should be a day of joy, but we feel emptiness and loss.

While the world celebrates around , I remember Christmas celebrations of the past and people long to have we loved We bring our sorrows to You, Lord, like some odd gift of the magi and dump them at Your feet. In our blind tears we wonder if anyone can possibly understand the depth of our sadness.

We know, You can. You sent Your son to be with us in our deepest sorrows and we know that even though we might not feel it now, You are here with us, grieving with us, caring for us in our sadness.

Dearest Lord, help us to turn to the one we miss so much today and speak. Help us heal the loss of our parting and help us not to regret the things we didn’t say. Sorrow tears at our hearts, but today we ask that our  loss soften our hearts and make us more compassionate with everyone we meet, so that our loss may become a gift to others.

Amen.

Dear God,

We pray for all the victims of the Typhoon Sendong, tragedy that struck the southern island of

Mindanao, Philippines

We pray for the safety, recovery, and grief of our Filipino brothers and  sisters today

who have suffered great losses in the typhoon floods.

Help those who have lost family to find them alive and well.

May they immediately receive the physical help, food, water, clothing, and medicine they need.

Send the right spiritual help to minister to those grieving, traumatized,

and lost who need to know You.

In your powerful name Jesus , we pray,

Amen.
